VIDEO LENGTH: 32 MINUTES
John obtained his PhD in Economics from MIT, has extensive experience in both Economics and Finance, and is currently Chief Economist and Chief Equity Strategist for Zack’s Investment Research. Before coming to Zacks, John was the Deputy Chief Economist at the Kyser Center. Prior to that position, John was SVP and Chief Sector Industry Equity Strategist for Decision Economics, Inc.
In this conversation, John discusses a range of subjects, including:
• Financialization of the economy. Does financial activity consist of “simply bidding up the price” of already existing assets?
• How did financial activity become divorced from the “real economy”, i.e., investing in businesses, enterprises, factories, homes, schools, hospitals, infrastructure, etc.?
• How can the economy be reformed to reward activity that is truly productive?
John also discusses the implications of financialization of the economy for the individual investor.
